January 2, 1989

Clemson cornerback Dexter Davis knocked down a desperation pass in the end zone by Jamelle Holieway to preserve a 13-6 win for the Tigers against Oklahoma.

It was their second consecutive Florida Citrus Bowl victory and the first back-to-back feat since Miami of Ohio zapped South Carolina and Georgia in 1974 and 1975.

Sophomore tailback Terry Allen earned MVP honors for his 100-yard all-purpose performance. Allen also scored the game’s only TD.
